The AI Sales Pitch Nobody Finishes

The AI Sales Pitch Nobody Finishes

The pitch always stops at the same place. Implement AI, clear out the tactical and transactional work, and free up your people. Nobody sells you the part that comes next.

Phil Ideson walks procurement leaders through what actually happens on the other side. You get the capacity back, and the people holding it were never trained to think strategically, build relationships, influence across the business, or manage supplier risk. So they leave, you end up short-staffed again, and the capacity you gained is now sitting in an AI line item.

His point is about sequence. Work out what the freed-up time is for and build those skills before the implementation, not after, because once you're standing in the room asking, "What now?" it's too late. Which is why he frames AI as an operating-model question in the first place, with technology as one part of it rather than the whole.
